Prints available through CIA shop!

My London agent, Central Illustration Agency, now has a shop open online where you can buy prints, including one of mine, titled "Tigerlily."

I have quite a bit of new work that I will be adding to the site soon. As is, the last few months have been pretty stressful with my September wedding. Following the wedding, I was so exhausted I just wanted to sit and stare at the ceiling, and basically not think for about six weeks. But as is, I've managed to keep the work going as it keeps on coming, and for this I am very grateful.

Lately I've been continuing work through an exciting poster series with Kübler Absinthe. That's right, for those not in the know, absinthe is now legal once again in the U.S. Let the madness begin again!

Mastercard Seven Wonders of the World

I recently was commissioned to artwork for Mastercard and part of their promotion offering a trip for two to see seven wonders of the world. Print ads for this will be in select April issues of Condé Nast magazines: Condé Nast Traveler, Wired, GQ and Vanity Fair.

So be sure to check it out... you may even win a trip in the process!

In other news, you can see I've updated my site with some new work, a new and improved logo, and a FAQ section. I was determined to update everything TODAY even if it meant staying up all night, by golly.

I am gradually chipping away at a new site, as I realize this current site has plenty of room for improvement. Too bad! This will have to do for now! I'm moving to the U.K. permanently next month and those of you who know me personally also know that I also have a September wedding to plan. Life is just one big barrel of monkeys, isn't it?

CIA Consequences/Computer Arts Inspiration Issue

I have felt so distracted by my trip to the U.K. that I haven't realized how long it has been since I have updated my blog. Last month was the CIA Consequences show in London's Covent Garden. See pictures from the show, including the dork-in-chief artiste with created image (above.) My panel was number 13 -- so a superstition theme was appropriate. I really enjoyed seeing friends and meeting some other artists at the show and not being so jetlagged this time around.

I am in this month's issue of Computer Arts magazine and their "Book of Inspiration." I felt honored to be involved and published with so many other fantastic artists.

Be on the lookout for Penguin Books' Pears Cyclopedia (if you are in the U.K.) -- I will post some pictures of the cover illustration that I did when the books arrive at my doorstep.

I have been doing quite a bit of magazine work and am currently working on some album art for some independant musicians. I also have been collecting additional images from the London Hippodrome. I hope to continue with my Box of Tricks works and eventually have a show in the U.S. and the U.K.

Hot off the press

I just finished a piece titled "Contact" -- a new art magazine out of Australia was seeking submissions for their first edition -- this is a different version than the straight vector version that I actually submitted, as that was just two colors.

I wanted to play with a full-color, textured version. The one-word theme was "contact" and my visuals were inspired by non-tangible contact, i.e. the concept of mental/spiritual contact -- rather than physical touch or contacting someone over the phone.

Also, I did a Speakerdog! Fellow Spunky Clothing Hall of Famer Ben the Illustrator invited artists to decorate their own Speakerdog. (Mine is "Return of Speakerdog" the second one down -- inspired by Japanese cuteness.)

Most of all, I'm just doing the Hustle right now and meeting with potential clients on contract jobs. And of course, portfolio work and getting the word out. I will also be starting another Illustrator tutorial for Photoshop User fairly soon.

New Blog Direction

I've made some changes on this blog and changed the focus of it somewhat. It's now fully public, and all business. Well, mostly business.

My submission for consideration in the Curvy book/Semi Permament show. My work was in Curvy 2 and Curvy 3 the last couple of years so hopefully I'll get in again this year. With the submission I wrote:

Title: "Tuesday Night Rock and Bowl"

It's a (semi-autobiographical!) piece about small town kids being bored and having nothing to do. There's just something funny about being a fashion-conscious teenager all glammed up and yet with no better place to hang out than the bowling alley. It also leads one to the question of why are we so bored, and what can be done about it?

I just did this commissioned piece for Indianapolis monthly, from an article about comfort food and a book excerpt about a Japanese American girl living in whitebread America and embarrassed by her bento lunchbox. I emailed this to Jan and I had to tell her I finally am doing narrative work since I know it's something she wanted to see me get into.
