New Blog Direction

I've made some changes on this blog and changed the focus of it somewhat. It's now fully public, and all business. Well, mostly business.



My submission for consideration in the Curvy book/Semi Permament show. My work was in Curvy 2 and Curvy 3 the last couple of years so hopefully I'll get in again this year. With the submission I wrote:

Title: "Tuesday Night Rock and Bowl"

It's a (semi-autobiographical!) piece about small town kids being bored and having nothing to do. There's just something funny about being a fashion-conscious teenager all glammed up and yet with no better place to hang out than the bowling alley. It also leads one to the question of why are we so bored, and what can be done about it?





I just did this commissioned piece for Indianapolis monthly, from an article about comfort food and a book excerpt about a Japanese American girl living in whitebread America and embarrassed by her bento lunchbox. I emailed this to Jan and I had to tell her I finally am doing narrative work since I know it's something she wanted to see me get into.
